TAKE 3 FOR THE SEA LAUNCH

It has been wonderful to witness the enthusiasm of so many students at Westcourt and Edmund Rice Campus alike, to demonstrate their support of the “TAKE 3” initiative. During lunchtime on Friday 18 February (Edmund Rice Campus) and again on Monday 21 February (Westcourt), students took to the yard with great gusto and willingly queued to get “caught on camera TAKING 3”, by picking up three pieces of rubbish from the yard, securing a muffin reward for their efforts.

I would like to thank Bryce G (Year 8) Tommy L (Year 9) and Callum W (Year 9) for their support in launching this initiative for 2022.

“Today we launched Take 3 For the Sea at Westcourt. You might not know what Take 3 For the Sea is, or why it’s so important. The initiative was founded by three scientists, with the aim to eradicate plastic pollution in the ocean. All it involves is picking up three pieces of rubbish and putting them in the bin, so that they can’t find their way into the sea and kill marine wildlife. The founders hope that by everybody taking small actions, we can all improve the world”.

Callum - (Year 9)

It was enjoyable volunteering for Take 3 for the Sea, because I know that being able to lend a hand in this event would promise that the rubbish that could be in the sea would be properly disposed of instead. Any amount of rubbish, big or small, is a contribution to helping out the sea and the environment.

"TAKE 3" FILMING COMPETITION

The TAKE 3 Challenge for 2022 is now running for all year levels. To enter, students simply film themselves “taking 3” somewhere in the community, conduct the “TAKE 3” salute and say “TAKE 3 for the Sea”. Entries should be submitted to Ms Kelly Jenkins at; [email protected] by the end of the day on Friday 1 April.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY – SUNDAY 6 MARCH -SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITY

Clean Up Australia Day efforts will resume this year, providing students and their families alike a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate their support of our local community and the environment.

We encourage SJC families to join the “Friends of Waurn Ponds Creek” community group to help clean up the surrounds of the Waurn Ponds Creek in a bid to save the threatened fish species, the Yarra Pigmy Perch.

Volunteers will meet from 9.00am at the Baseball Park car park near the junction of Pioneer Rd and Meadowvale Drive. The “clean up” will be conducted on both sides of the Creek and in both directions from the car park.

To participate, simply turn up and register on the day. Protective footwear, gloves, hat and a water bottle are advised. Volunteers will also be required to complete a Coronavirus questionnaire prior to the day. (See link below).
