Our Advisory Council membership is highly representative of the College community. The Council establishes policy, strategies and direction for the College, as distinct from management and the day to day operations of the College. The Advisory Council meets monthly, and holds an Annual Seminar. Currently there is one sub-committee of the Council: Finance/Planning Committee. People from the College and wider community who feel they can offer something to the College are invited to contact the Principal's PA concerning the Advisory Council or committee membership.

Mr Tony Paatsch
Mr Tony Paatsch

Principal

With a teaching background in Catholic Boys’ schools, I have held senior leadership roles since 2000, initially as Deputy Principal at St Joseph’s followed by eight years as Principal of St Bernard’s College Essendon before returning to St Joseph’s as Principal in 2017.

I have Masters degrees in Education, Theology and Business Administration and I am passionate about education. I believe strongly in the benefits to young men of a single gender learning environment, particularly at junior secondary level. Good schools like St Joseph’s graduate young men who have the capacity and commitment to make the world a better place and I feel privileged to work with them in this endeavor.

With a Physical Education background, I still enjoy staying active in the outdoors. I am married to Louise and we have three adult children and two delightful grandchildren.

I am a Professor in Health and Physical Education at Deakin University, where my research focuses on the interacting themes of education, identity and equity. This work has a particular focus on the changing nature of youth experiences at the beginning of the 21st century, and the ways in which these experiences are both governed by others and regulated by the ‘self’. Conceptually this work draws on sociological and educational theory and is rooted in the application of qualitative methodologies. Across this work, I have produced over 80 publications including books, book chapters, journal articles, research reports and conference papers. This track record comprises a mix of high quality, sole-authored, joint and multi-authored papers published in highly regarded international and national journals
