Chess is back in 2022 at St Joseph’s College. Lunchtime tutorials take place on Fridays in D103 at Edmund Rice Campus. A short skill is introduced at the start of the session, followed by playing games with fellow students or attempting to challenge the teacher. Regular attendance is required for students wishing to represent the College in interschool chess, with students having qualified for state finals in previous years. Tutorials will have commenced on 4 February, with one week break due to House Athletics on 11 February. They will recommence on 18 February, which will also be the first game of the inaugural Junior House Chess Competition. Currently, there are eight entrants – it would be nice to see each house enter at least four students – in particular, Brophy House currently has no entries, so if you’re a junior student in Brophy and wish to participate could you please check the notices on the bulletin with the link for entry.

In particular, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new students to the College, in particular our new Year 7s, and I look forward to seeing as many of you as can be accommodated on Fridays.
