Year 11 English Language Linguistic Fieldwork

On Tuesday our Year 11 English Language students conducted their linguistic fieldwork at Federation Children Childcare Centre in Newtown. English Language students have been studying first language acquisition and are required to transcribe conversations and identify the developmental stage and subsystems of spoken communication. Students have also been learning about linguistic theories and needed to observe these in a real life context.

The young people at Federation Children were very happy to have 15 Year 11 students join them for the morning and were excited to provide them with lots of recorded conversations which will now be used for their up and coming SAC annotated transcripts.St Joseph’s students were commended by staff at Federation Children for their kindness, gentle natures, willingness to engage with the children, their enthusiasm for play and respect towards staff. We look forward to some of the four year-old children visiting our class here at St Joseph’s College later this term.
