On Wednesday the 28 April, the staff and students of Westcourt raised money in support of the Paws4Kids program which is run by Mackillop Family Services. The money raised was going towards continuing the support program that they currently run, and funding for a Companion Dog in the Geelong Region. MacKillop Family Services noticed a need for a Therapy Dog in the Geelong Area.

“Over the past two years, Mackillop Family Services have built up a multi-disciplinary team using therapy dogs to help the most vulnerable kids including kids living in residential care homes - only 1/3 of whom are attending school full-time, Kids who have been excluded from mainstream classroom because of behaviours that can't currently be managed, Kids who’ve fallen behind due to a crisis at home and many, many more.”

Westcourt students ordered potato cakes and soft drinks and purchased cookies from the canteen to raise funds for this worthy cause. With over 150 students and staff throughout the campus ordering the $5 meal deal, we raised over $500 dollars. This amount was matched by a fundraising sponsor, the money donated from St Joeys, combined with all of the other donations has now resulted in enough funds for a Companion Dog in the Geelong area!

We would like to thank everyone that donated to this very worthy cause including the Staff and Students of Westcourt. We would also like to congratulate the Student Leaders for their support and help in promoting the event and distributing the potato cakes on the day. Thanks also to Kristen Grant for helping to sort out the logistics behind the scenes of the event and also to Mr Deverall for his support of the cause.
