Author Mark Smith’s visit to Westcourt to discuss his novel The Road to Winter was a highlight last week. Most boys rate the novel highly and can relate to its premise of a teenage boy surviving ‘down the coast’ after an apocalypse. Mark covered a great deal of information relating to his own adolescence, how he came to write the novel and the struggles in getting it published. Much practical advice was shared about the pitfalls and highlights of storytelling, which is bound to help Year 9 boys in Think later this term when they create their own post-apocalyptic story.
