On the last day of Term 1, the St Joseph’s Swim Team travelled to Melbourne to compete in the annual ACC swimming carnival. Each year the competition is incredibly tough and this year was no different. We began with a gathering at school where it was announced to the group that Jack Simsic would be the Captain of the swimming team, with Timothy Hannan as Deputy Captain. Once we arrived at MSAC, the boys completed a short warm-up before the competition began.

Captain, Jack Simsic started the night off with silver in the open 200m freestyle. This was a fantastic start for the team and the outstanding results continued with many St Joseph’s boys winning or placing in their events. SJC took an early lead in the Division 2 race and continued to extend this lead throughout the night. As we neared the end of the event, all that was left were the freestyle relays. The boys could smell victory and gave one last effort. The result was 5 gold and 1 silver out of the six age group relays.

The night concluded with the presentations, where ACC Chairperson and the SJC Principal had the pleasure of announcing St Joseph’s College Geelong as the overall winners of the Division 2 aggregate. Overall the boys brought home 25 gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze medals. A tremendous effort by all involved. Below is a list of students involved in the victorious SJC Swim Team.
