VITA Sailing Excursion

On Friday 26 May, Mt Sion students in the VITA program participated in a sailing excursion day through the Winds of Joy program. This program is an inclusive, safe space, designed to give young people with disability and disadvantage an empowering and uplifting experience on-water. While the wind was too choppy to put the sails up, students enjoyed time on the yacht out in Corio bay and engaged with the crew from Making Waves Foundation. They learnt about wind direction and changes, channels, rules on the water and all aspects of our yacht. Students encouraged each other with the various challenges that they were presented with throughout the day, which included taking over the control of the yacht at the helm. The camaraderie shown amongst the group was commendable and we are proud of how well they represented St Joseph’s.
