SJC - McNeill Cup
Procedure:
A committee of the VCE co-ordinator (chair), Year 12 Co-ordinator and the Deputy Principal will be required to put forward their nomination to the Principal.
Criteria:
- Profile in school events
- Academic commitment and achievement
- Leadership
- Commitment to ideals of the college
- Participation in college activities - sporting events & teams
- Cultural events
- School functions eg Edmund Rice Day
- Liturgical services.
Zampatti All Rounder Award
Participate in a range of activities:

SJC - “Edmund Rice Award”
-
The recipient of this award has endeavoured to exemplify the ideals of Br Edmund rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers, in service to others and help for the disadvantaged.
-
In particular by undertaking unselfish work in promoting Edmund Rice camps, and organising appeals to support them, plus giving of time and talent to support religious celebrations and their promotion.
Ryan Draper Memorial Award – Oratory
-
Ryan draper was a student at St Joseph’s College from 1995 through to 1998. During his time with us, Ryan excelled in all areas of study; however he is most remembered for his participation and performance in public speaking and debating events and forums. He was the co dux of the college and the joint winner of the McNeill cup in 1998. Ryan developed outstanding oratory skills, and his success and leadership in this area helped to engender the interest and participation of other students in public speaking and debating. He captained the college debating team and was elected to the Victorian School’s Debating Team as the number three speaker. Tragically, Ryan died as a result of a car accident in 1999 and this award has been introduced so that a student most typifying the endeavours and achievements of Ryan would receive recognition in his honour.
SJC - “Adam Bryant Memorial House Competition Award”

Presented to the house captain of the winning house competition team for the year.

Adam attended St Joseph's college for 10 years, commencing in year 3, 1982 to his final year 1992 when he was elected deputy college captain by his peers. During this time Adam was actively involved in all areas of college life, showing enthusiasm and willingness to have a go and encouraging fellow students to join in the school spirit. Adam endeared himself to students across all year levels and formed friendships with staff with his cheerful and positive outlook. Adam died as the result of a car accident on 26th august, 1993 and his family donated this shield in appreciation to St Joseph's college for being such an important part of Adam's life, and in memory of the many wonderful friendships he formed. His spirit lives on through this house competition.

Frank attended St Joseph’s college as a student from 1965 until 1970 and in his final year was recipient of the Old Collegians’ exemplary student award. Frank successfully completed his studies at Deakin University and returned to St Joseph’s in 1974 as a chemistry teacher. In the early 1980’s, his vision saw him as one of the pioneers in the use of computers in secondary education in Geelong with the introduction of computers at St Joseph’s. Frank died in 2007 after a long battle with cancer.

SJC – Leadership Award

The recipient of this award has endeavoured to show the school community that leadership involves students from all levels. The student will have been involved in many facets of school life and initiated ideas as well as assisting others. The student has been involved both within the school community and in the wider community.

The student will possess some or all of the following attributes; an openness to students at all levels, empathy, school spirit, ability to listen, a willingness to be involved with staff, parents and students, lead by example, takes responsibilities, be patient and is able to praise others and see their contributions also.
Years 7-10
Principal’s Award

One awarded at each year level (Yrs 7 – 11) to the student who contributes to life and culture of the college.

They are involved in extra curricula activities, achieved consistently good academic results and a positive role model for other students in the year level

He is also respectful to staff and fellow students.
Consistent Effort
- One awarded at each homeroom ie. 8/9 per year level (Years 7 – 11 only).
- The student consistently applied himself throughout the year, was positive in his approach towards his studies, worked to his potential and consistently met deadlines.
Edmund Rice
- One awarded at each year level to the student who promotes the values of Edmund Rice by participating and promoting social justice.
- He has assisted students in aspects of school life been generous to others and supportive of peers and embodies the principles that build positive communities.
Leadership
- Two awarded at each year level to the students who have shown leadership in the year level by actively promoting the year level and organizing activities for the year level.
Encouragement
- Two awarded per year level to the students works to his potential, has become more positive and committed in approach and shown an improvement in attitude and work ethic.
Community Service Awards
- Recognition of student/s commitment to community service programs inside the school and programs in the community

- Two awards per key learning areas determined by KLA head based on report data
Special Awards
Year 8
Gabi Szentes Memorial Award
- This is presented to a year 8 student who has typified the spirit, courage, friendship and motivation that was evident in Gabi’s life.
- Gabi was a great mate to everyone and the first person to try and help somebody out if they had a problem. Gabi tragically died in 1990 as a result of cancer at the young age of 14.
Year 7
Brent Whitten Memorial Award
- For physical education
- This s presented for active participation, ability and skill development in one or more sports
- However, more importantly, it is given recognition of good sportsmanship, team spirit, initiative and leadership on the sporting field.
- Brent was a student in our primary school from 1991 and began year 7 in 1994. Brent was tragically killed in an accident at home in early 1994.
Mary Delahunty memorial award
- For academic/ sport / community-is presented to a year 7 student who has achieved excellent results academically, involved himself in sporting activities and contributed positively to the school and wider community.
