College Board

St Joseph's College Geelong Board

Welcome to the St Joseph's College Geelong Board web page.

Our Board membership is highly representative of the College community. The Board establishes policy, strategies and direction for the College, as distinct from management and the day to day operations of the College. The Board meets monthly, and holds an Annual Seminar. Currently there are two sub committees of the Board: Planning and Finance. People from the College and wider community who feel they can offer something to the College are invited to contact me concerning Board or committee membership.

Mr Wayne Tattersall – Board Chairperson, Executive Member & Finance Committee Member

I commenced on the College Board in 2007 and it is such an honour to be part of this wonderful school community in this capacity. As a parent, when we first came to this school, we were amazed at how friendly and supportive everyone was, and the general feeling around the school just made me want to get involved in some way. To contribute towards the development of the college is great, but also being able to share in my son’s schooling experience with him has been fantastic. I look forward to many years on the Board where I can continue to support and make a contribution to this college. I am married to Sharon and we have one son (Dylan, Yr8) and two girls (Cassie and Ellie). I have a background in Finance and Commerce, and have held accountant and senior finance roles for the past 12 years.

Mrs Jane Littore - Board Deputy Chairperson & Executive Member

I commenced on the College Board in 2004.  I am a current parent, with two boys in Years 11 and 12 (2008). We also have a girl in Year 7 at SHC, and a boy in Grade 5, and a girl in Grade 4, both at St. Robert’s. So our association with the College will be for a good many years yet! We love the St. Joseph's community. We are also involved with the football and cricket clubs, with my husband, Vince being a coach, and President of the St. Joseph's Little League a few years back. I work in our own business, which is a winery, and I deal with the export logistics. My background is in teaching, although I have not done that since our first son was born. However, I do think that I bring some value to the Board with a teaching background, plus being a committed and involved parent. I am in my fifth year on the Board, and am a member of the Executive. I am really enjoying the whole experience, and very happy to work with all the terrific people who run St Joseph's College.

Mr Paul Tobias – Principal & Executive Officer of Board

My academic background is recorded in my “Welcome” on the SJC Website. My first appointment as Deputy Principal was at Emmanuel College in Warrnambool from 1985-1994. I then took up the appointment of Deputy Principal at SJC Geelong from 1995 until 1999. Then in 2000 I became Principal. I’m married to Dianne and we have four children, three boys and one girl, who have attended SJC and SHC. My time at SJC has been ever-changing and fulfilling. Much building and growth has taken place. The staff, students and families are very supportive of our College ethos in the tradition of Edmund Rice. There are always new challenges being met by our Board and I’m extremely grateful for members from the past and present who have helped build our College and community spirit. We are so fortunate to have such great support from the various College groups including the Parents & Friends, Old Collegians, Foundation, Men’s Association and the like. Parental participation is an important part of who we are as a community. I look forward to the continued input and support of our Board into the future.

Ms Claire Brown – Board Member & Deputy Principal

I commenced as a Deputy Principal and became a member the Board at the College in 2000 until 2004.  This year, it is with great pleasure that I rejoin the Board, having had such a positive experience last time.  A  little of my history….Prior to commencing as Deputy Principal at St Joseph’s, I was Deputy Principal and Campus Head at Penola Catholic College in Broadmeadows from 1994 to 1999. Penola opened as a 7-12 co-ed College in 1994 following the amalgamation of Geoghegan College, Therry College and Sancta Sofia College, all in the Broadmeadows / Glenroy area. Being involved in an large amalgamation and building a new school with staff from three different Colleges, each with their own ethos and traditions, was quite a challenge but one I enjoyed. Being appointed head of the junior campus with 600 year 7s and 8s was another challenge as I had been Deputy Principal at Geoghegan College for the 4 years leading up to the amalgamation and a teacher there for a total of 14 years. Geoghagan was a VCE only co-ed College .After so many years with VCE students only, I needed to re educate myself very quickly about the needs and best ways to work with younger adolescents. It was a bit like being reborn as an educationalist! I thoroughly enjoyed it and as it turned out, it was great preparation for my arrival at St Joseph’s. My time here has been challenging and rewarding and I am committed to ongoing improvement for our College. I look forward to working with the Board in achieving this.  I have two daughters, Hannah and Juliet. Hannah is a young solicitor in Melbourne and Juliet is a secondary teacher in Vancouver, expecting her first child in June. Grand-motherhood looms!

Mrs Sheryl Allen – Board Member & Promotions Committee Member

I joined the Board in 2005, with the full support of my husband, Peter. We felt it was important for our family to "give back" to the College. We still feel the same way even though our son Darcy completed VCE at St Joseph's in 2007 and daughter Janeece at Clonard College in 2004. As a freelance copywriter, I have a focus on business communications, working with local, regional and national clients. My earlier background is in administration, management and community development. I enjoy my roles on both the SJC Promotions and Marketing Committee and the Board, where there is full opportunity to contribute and share in the ongoing development of the College in an open, supportive setting.

Ms Lisa Dalla-Zuanna – Board Member

I joined the College Board in 2005 when I had a son Giacomo studying at the school. Giacomo completed year 12 last year, 2008. My daughter Holly is in Year 11 at Sacred Heart. My work focus is in social housing with the Salvation Army. The years I have sent on the board so far have been rewarding and given me a great insight into the running of the school. This is the reason I have chosen to stay with the board even though my son has left. I could only encourage parents to join the college board. Being a parent who has had limited time to give to the school, this gave me the ability to contribute in a time that suited me and gave me the way to be a part of my sons school life.

Mr Nino Ficca – Board Member

I joined the College Board in 2006.  I was born in Geelong, attended St Roberts Primary School and St Josephs College and my children attended St Joseph’s and Sacred Heart. I graduated from Deakin University before beginning my career as a graduate engineer with the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria and have substantial experience in design, construction, financial & regulatory management spanning over 25 years. I have held various management roles, prior to being appointed as Managing Director of SPI PowerNet in 2001 and then SP AusNet in 2004. While still living in Geelong, business travel commitments mean I spend a significant period of time outside Australia. As Managing Director of SP AusNet, I have overall regulatory, operational, commercial and financial responsibility for a $5.6 billion gas and electricity network. This network services over one million consumers Victoria wide with a 1000 strong workforce. I have led the company through a public listing on the ASX and SGX in December 2005. I continue to look forward to supporting St Joseph’s and the challenges ahead.

I am looking forward to being able to contribute to the school in a different way. My background is in business and teaching.  I welcome the opportunity to work with the Board to achieve the goals of a school and community that has given so much to my family over the years.

After completing my education I worked for the P.M.G. / Telecom and Telstra and during that time worked as a technician maintaining telephone exchanges throughout Victoria and Tasmania. My wife Maree and I have four children; Darren was also educated at SJC from 1991 to 1996 and Johanna, Leah and Hayley who were educated at SHC. Mrs Maureen Bryant – Board Minute Secretary

I am a past parent, having had five boys attend the College, between 1982 - 1999. Adam (1992), David (1993), Simon (1994), Jonathan (1996) and Mark (1999). In 1992 we managed to have all five sons here together for one year. Our eldest son Adam died in a car accident in 1993 and the College Community were a tremendous support to us and our four sons still attending the College. I have a background working as Secretary to the Principal, firstly at Christ the King Primary School for 11 years and at St Joseph's since 1993. My involvement with the Board commenced in 1993.  My husband Greg was Treasurer of the Parents & Friends for many years and a founding Foundation Committee Member. He has also been President of the St Joseph’s Football & Netball Club. So St Joseph’s has been and is a very big part of our lives. As Secretary for the Board I have come to know and appreciate the great work members do and the time and expertise they give to support our Principal, Management Team, Staff and College Community.
